TRULY A LENTEN SACRIFICE

The Chicago Tribune had a story today about McDonald's cancelling the spiced up chicken sandwich they have. Apparently people weren't buying it. Ho hum. Whatever. However, the article did have this tidbit about past failures in McDonald's product development:

In 1962, the company briefly offered a sandwich with grilled pineapple and cheese for consumers going meatless during Lent. It failed to catch on and the next year was replaced by the Filet-O-Fish, which is now one of the company's standards.

Oh, sweet Jesus. Grilled pineapple with cheese from McDonald's? THAT must have been a Lenten sacrifice!

McDonald's probably gave up on the spicy chicken sandwich because it was such an unbelievable ripoff of Wendy's delicious offering. I'm glad they failed in their weak imitation.

You can't fuck with the O.G. spicy chicken.

The pineapple and cheese sandwich is a great example of a really bad idea. Perhaps they should come up with a Peanut butter and Banana Lenten special. But whatever happened to that fine repast, the McRib sandwich? That was one of my favorites next to the Burger King veal parmesan sandwich. By the way, is the current creepy looking Burger King required to register with local law enforcement as a sex offender? Just curious.
